Marriage can be defined as the Union or association of two individuals of opposite sex in the process of ritual/ legal practice to fulfill the common goal of Dharma; Artha; Kama and Moksha in their life.  In the context of Indian culture, marriage is taken as the affairs which is already settled in the Heaven and sacrosanct in nature and cannot be broken by any means. However, in some countries in the present world it is taken as a legal contract. In Astrological point of view; the key to successful marriage depends on some planetary combination/condition; subsequent dasha of the couples and transit of the planets.

Timing of Marriage

As per Astrology the timing of marriage can be broadly divide into the following categories –

  1. Early Marriage
  2. Normal Marriage
  3. Late Marriage
  4. Delayed Marriage
  5. Denial of Marriage

Early Marriage (Earlier than 21 years)

If we analyze the actual happenings of the marriage, it can be observed that 60 to 70 percent of marriages occur in the Dasha or Anter Dasha of the lords of 1st House; 5th House and 7th House of the Horoscope of the native concerned. However, here are some astrological combinations for early marriage –

(i)   Direct Benefic should be placed in 1/7 axis of the Horoscope and there should not be any malefic planet in 2/8 axis of the Horoscope.

(ii)  The position of Lagna Lord; Venus; Jupiter and 7th Lord should be good for early marriage. Therefore, these planets should be placed in Kendra or Trikon and in good sign of the native’s horoscope. Further, these planets should not be combust; retrograde and not in a papkartari yoga. These planets should have very good shad ball.

(iii) Closeness of Lagna Lord with 7th House lord or with Venus degree wise in a Horoscope resulted into early marriage.

Normal Marriage (21 to 24 years)

(I) 1/7th and 2/8th axis of the Horoscope of the native can have little or minor malefic influence. The influence Sun, Rahu and Ketu is treated as mild malefic.

(ii)  Venus & Jupiter should not be combust and retrograde and placement of benefic in 4/10th axis of the Horoscope.

Late Marriage

(i) 1/7th and 1/8th axis should have strong malefic influence like Saturn and Mars.

(ii) Venus, benefic and darakarak should be combust; retrograde.

(iii) Horoscope should have Kuja Dosh i.e. placement of Mars in 1st; 4th; 7th; 8th and 12th House of the natal horoscope. Placement of mars in 7th & Houses of the Horoscope is treated as 100% Kuja or Mangal Dosh. The rest positions are minor dosh.

Delayed Marriage

(i) The role of Saturn in delayed marriage is crucial. Saturn & Sun combination or Saturn plays an important role in the Horoscope. Further, if Saturn is in square with Venus in case of male native or Mars in case female native – the marriages get delayed significantly.

(ii) The position of 7th lord into 8th House or 8th Lord into 7th House and lagna lord in 12th House leads to delayed marriage.

Denial of Marriage

(i)  There is little difference between delayed marriage and denial of marriage. Again Saturn plays a crucial role in this category. When Moon and Venus are in control of Saturn, native does not feel any thirst for marriage; his desire or interest goes for spiritualism or for salvation.

(ii) Sun & Saturn combination in 1/7th axis can lead to denial of marriage. If Venus and 7th Lord of the Horoscope is weak like combust and in control of Saturn – denial can happen.

(iii) 7th Lord of the Horoscope; Venus and Lagna lord is  in unfertile sign or three lagna such as  Sun; Moon and Ascendant are having aspects of Saturn. All these combination can lead to denial of marriage.
